Winsted, MN 125th History Book
About the book
Compiling and publishing history is never an easy task – there’s always more of it happening every day. As the city of Winsted, Minnesota, reaches its 125th year, this book is the product of many people’s efforts to document the history and current status of our fair city.

The Winsted 125th History Book is divided into (3) sections:

The first section is a reprint of the Winsted Centennial book from 1987. All written material is intact as originally presented. Some of the photos have been re-scanned and replaced to provide higher quality images.

The second section contains additional historical items from before 1987.

The third section covers the period of 1987 to 2012, including local business histories presented in ad format, plus a comprehensive listing of Winsted businesses as of this year.

All possible attempts at accuracy have been made, and of course, any errors or omissions are unintentional. We hope you enjoy reflecting back on the many people, places, and things that make Winsted so special.

This compilation of the history of Winsted, Minnesota, is dedicated to everyone who has made our town what it is today – the settlers and early residents, those who invested and built the community over the years, as well as those who call Winsted home today.

Sometimes described as McLeod County’s “best kept secret,” Winsted has historically been known for its strong industrial base of homegrown companies. Combined with its surrounding bountiful farmland, recreation opportunities, proximity to the Twin Cities, and most of all, the people who live, work, and play here, Winsted is unique in many ways.

As the calendar flips again and the 126th year begins, Winsted now has new technologies and opportunities to build upon its successful history.

In the words of the song written for Winsted’s centennial in 1987, we say “Well done, O Winsted.” And also echoing the centennial slogan, “the best is yet to be.”
